Chapter Eleven

11:1

Cast your bread upon the waters, and after many days it shall return.

11:2

Store your wealth in seven, even eight places,
for you know not what evil shall come upon the earth.

11:3

If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth.

If a tree falls toward the south or toward the north,
in the place where it falls, there it shall be.
11:4

He who observes the wind will never sow.

He who regards the clouds will never reap.

11:5

Just as you know not the way of the wind,
nor how the bones of a child grow in a mother’s womb,

so you know not the works of God, who creates all.

11:6

In the morning sow your seeds, and in the evening do not rest your hands.

For you know not which field shall prosper,
or whether they both shall be equally good.

11:7

Truly, light is sweet. It is a pleasant thing for the eyes to behold the sun.

11:8

However many years you live, rejoice in them all, knowing also
there will be many days of darkness. Everything that comes is vanity.

11:9

Rejoice, O young man, and let your heart delight in the days of your youth.

Follow the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes.

But know, too, that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

11:10

Remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh.

Childhood and youth are vanity.
